BPM vs Low Code Platforms. What is the Difference?

December 5, 2016 / Application Development, BPM, Low-Code,

What is the difference between Business Process Management Suites (BPM) and Low Code Platforms?

This is one question we get asked time and again. So we decided to create a Point of View (POV) document which will highlight the overlapping capabilities as well as the differences.

The real difference lies in what you aim to do with it. Business Process Management suites are targeted towards bringing operational excellence in enterprises. The underlying objective is to connect each and every process & function within the organization so that it works like a well-oiled machine.

On the other hand, Low Code platforms aim to expedite software development and delivery, thus the focus is on the speed of delivery and simplifying application development. Low Code platform’s scope can be limited to a single business application or can be extended across the enterprise depending on the underlying program objectives.

Both platforms provide sophisticated tools for business users to take control of their respective applications. Though there are several differences with regards to:

  • The purpose they are built for
  • Audiences they target
  • Type of applications you can build, Use Cases
  • Skills Needed
  • Implementation Methods
  • Technical Capabilities

Download this Point of View document to have a better understanding of all the above mentioned aspects.

Depending on your larger organisational objectives, you can easily map which one is right for you.
